A Smartwings flight bound for Brno, Czech Republic from Corfu diverted to Preveza, Greece after shutting down an engine on 28 August 2025.
Smartwings flight QS2301, operated by a Boeing 737-800, had conducted a departure from runway 34 Corfu International Airport (CFU).
The flight was a scheduled service bound for Brno-Tuřany Airport (BRQ) in the Czech Republic.

Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft right-hand engine emitted streaks of flame and loud bangs, according to a ground observer.
As a result, flight crew terminated the departure procedure and levelled off at 4000 feet. A holding procedure was then entered into to the south of Corfu to permit fuel burn off.
Following the procedure, flight crew then diverted the aircraft to Preveza Aktion National Airport (PVK).
The aircraft landed without further incident on runway 24 Aktion National Airport. The landing was made approximately 45 minutes after its initial departure from Corfu.
The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to complete the scheduled service to Brno-Tuřany Airport, due to the unserviceability.

Flight data shows that flight QS2301 had made an on-time departure out of Corfu International Airport at 5:07 PM local time on 28 August.
Following its takeoff, flight crew terminated the climb at 4000 feet before entering a holding procedure at that altitude to burn off fuel.
A direct track was then initiated to Preveza Aktion National Airport.
The aircraft conducting the QS2301 service to Brno-Tuřany Airport was a Boeing 737-800, registered OK-TVW. This is a 20.9 year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier Smartwings.
It has been in operational service with the airline since June 2012. Prior to its service with the airline it was operated by Privatair since its initial delivery from the factory in November 2004.
