An Oman Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 departing for Bangkok was forced to return to Muscat, Oman after reporting a wing flap problem on 31 May 2025.
Oman Air flight WY815, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, had conducted a departure from runway 26L Muscat International Airport (MCT).
The flight was a scheduled service bound for Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). During the initial climb after takeoff, flight crew reported experiencing a problem with the aircraft wing flaps.

The aircraft’s speed was reduced and the climb procedure was discontinued. Flight crew subsequently placed the aircraft in a holding procedure to facilitate fuel burn off. After an extended period of holding in the vicinity of the airport, and approach was then made to runway 26R Muscat International Airport.
According to information from the Aviation Herald, the return landing was made at a higher than normal landing speed. Flight was able to land without further incident approximately three hours after its initial departure.
The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to carry out the onwards service to Bangkok, due to the aircraft unserviceability.

Flight data shows that flight WY815 had made an on-time departure from Muscat International Airport at 0840 local time on 31 May.
Following takeoff, the climb procedure was terminated at flight level FL120, and the aircraft entered and initial holding pattern that altitude. This was presumably to allow the flight crew to run troubleshooting checks.
Following the initial period of holding, the aircraft was repositioned overwater near the coast to facilitate fuel dumping. Flight level FL120 was maintained throughout the holding procedure.
The aircraft was then return to the origin airport and an approach and landing was subsequently made to runway 26R. The landing speed was approximately 170 kt over the ground.
The aircraft conducting the WY815 service to Bangkok was a Boeing 737 MAX 8, registered A40-ML. This is a six year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier Oman Air.
It has been operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in March 2022.
