Etihad Airways Reports Strong Traffic Growth in May

Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national airline, shared its May 2025 traffic data, showcasing robust growth and rising passenger demand.

The airline welcomed 1.7 million travelers last month, a 19% jump from May 2024. This surge highlights Etihad’s successful expansion strategy and strong market presence.

The passenger load factor, which measures how full flights are, reached 87%, up from 84% a year ago.

This improvement shows Etihad’s skill in balancing capacity with demand. With a fleet of 100 aircraft, the airline continues to enhance its network and services.

Etihad Yearly Performance to Date

From January to May 2025, Etihad carried 8.4 million passengers, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The airline maintained an average load factor of 87% during these months, reflecting consistent performance. Over the past 12 months, nearly 20 million people chose Etihad, signaling trust in its services.

The airline delivered record-breaking financial performance and highest-ever customer satisfaction performance in the first quarter of 2025. This builds on last year’s momentum with further notable improvements across revenue, operational efficiency, and fleet expansion.

In April, the airline introduced its new A321LR cabin, becoming the first in the region to offer First Class on a single-aisle aircraft.

The cabin features exclusive private First suites and lie-flat Business seats, bringing widebody comfort to medium-haul routes.

The broader First class experience will include a new concierge service, private chauffeur transfers, dedicated check-in, meet-and-assist service, and baggage-free travel options in Abu Dhabi.

Etihad Airways CEO Perspective

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, commented on the strong figures. “Our momentum is strong, with a 19% rise in May’s passenger numbers.”

“We’re the fastest-growing airline in the Middle East. Over 8 million customers flew with us in 2025 so far, and our 12-month total nears 20 million. This shows the confidence travelers have in Etihad.”

Neves added, “Hitting a 100-aircraft fleet in May was a proud moment. As we grow our routes and fleet, our goal is to provide a smooth and outstanding experience for every customer.”
