An EL AL flight inbound from Tel Aviv has declared an emergency whilst on approach to Barcelona.
EL AL flight LY393, operated by a Boeing 737-900ER, declared the emergency with transponder code 7700 during the descent phase into Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
Flight LY393 declared the emergency, squawking code 7700 at 06:43 UTC. The flight had commenced its initial descent into Barcelona and had just left cruising altitude when the emergency was declared.
The nature of the emergency is not yet known.

Following the emergency declaration, flight crew expedited the descent and approach to the destination. Squawk code 7700 was maintained for emergency priority during the subsequent approach.
The flight has now landed runway 06L Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The aircraft has cleared the active runway and taxied to the stand.
