Dublin Airport is bracing for its busiest summer yet, with over 10 million passengers expected to pass through its terminals from June to August 2025.
The airport’s operator, daa, has unveiled a series of enhancements designed to ensure smooth travel experiences and keep passengers smiling throughout the season.
As Ireland’s primary gateway, handling roughly 65% of the island’s air traffic, Dublin Airport is pulling out all the stops to make this summer unforgettable for all the right reasons.
A Summer of Record Demand
This summer, Dublin Airport anticipates around 3.5 million passengers each month. From sunseekers jetting off to warm destinations to business travellers and tourists exploring Ireland’s 32 counties, the airport is ready to welcome a diverse mix of visitors.
With an average of 121,000 passengers daily—and peaks expected to reach 130,000 to 140,000 on some days—the airport is entering new territory.
May 2025 already saw three days with over 120,000 passengers, signalling the unprecedented demand for travel through Ireland’s national hub.
Travelers will have plenty of options, with 43 airlines offering over 2,600 weekly departing flights to 190 destinations, including 130+ European cities and popular summer hotspots. Whether you’re heading to a Mediterranean beach or a bustling urban centre, Dublin Airport has you covered.
Streamlining the Boarding Process
Dublin Airport is aiming for 90% of passengers to clear security in under 20 minutes, a target successfully met last summer.
“Summer 2025 will be our busiest on record, and we’re determined to make it the best ever for passenger experience,” said Gary McLean, Dublin Airport’s Managing Director. “Last year, we hit record-high passenger satisfaction scores, but we’re not stopping there. We’re building on three years of improvements and ongoing passenger feedback to make travel even smoother.”
The airport is rolling out upgrades across its terminals, including state-of-the-art C3 security scanners, new dining options, and other passenger-friendly features.
“Behind the construction hoardings, exciting changes are taking shape,” McLean added. The focus remains on getting the basics right—ensuring efficiency and a stress-free journey for the 120,000+ passengers passing through daily during peak periods.
To fine-tune the experience, daa is leveraging feedback from multiple sources: the new Dublin Airport app, and independent passenger surveys. It also includes insights from the Passenger Panel, which met as recently as late May 2025.
These efforts help identify and resolve pain points, ensuring both arriving and departing passengers enjoy a hassle-free visit.
A Vision for Growth Amid Challenges
daa CEO Kenny Jacobs highlighted the airport’s critical role in Ireland’s economy and connectivity. “The demand to fly through Dublin Airport is immense, but the outdated passenger cap limits our potential,” Jacobs noted.
“Without it, we could welcome even more visitors, boosting local businesses and enabling new direct routes to places like Brazil and India.”
He emphasized the need for long-term planning to accommodate 40 million passengers annually and beyond, welcoming Minister O’Brien’s commitment to resolving the cap through legislation.
Travel Tips for a Smooth Journey
To ensure a seamless travel experience, daa offers practical advice for passengers:
- Arrive Early: Be at the terminal two hours before short-haul flights or three hours before long-haul flights.
- Check-In Options: Check with your airline for night-before bag drop services to save time.
- Security Prep: While C3 scanner installation is nearly complete, current rules still apply until autumn 2025. Remove liquids, lotions, and gels (under 100ml) and electronics from hand luggage during security checks.
