Cathay Cargo’s expertise in transporting live animals was on full display as it played a key role in bringing world-class equestrian talent to Hong Kong. The transport operation was for the highly anticipated Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show.
This prestigious event, held at AsiaWorld-Expo from February 14th to 16th, 2025, marked the return of top-tier equestrian competition and show jumping to Hong Kong after a five-year hiatus.
Approximately 70 horses, coming from Europe, made the journey to Hong Kong under the careful watch of Cathay Cargo, the official airline partner for the event.
Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show
The Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show featured international show jumpers competing in various disciplines, alongside other exciting equine entertainment.
The event drew over 25,000 attendees from Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (GBA), eager to witness three days of world-class competition.

Boeing 747 Freighter Operation
Cathay Cargo’s Live Animal solution was instrumental in the safe and comfortable transport of these valuable equine athletes.
The carrier operated a dedicated charter flight, utilizing a Boeing 747 freighter. The freighter aircraft departed from Liège, Belgium. It transported the majority of the showjumping and specialized high-jump puissance horses.
Four experienced grooms accompanied the horses on the main deck of the freighter. They provided the horses with constant care and attention throughout the journey. This ensured the horses were comfortable and relaxed, minimizing any stress associated with travel.
The charming Shetland ponies will participate in the event’s “Shetland Pony Grand National.” Cathay Cargo flew them to Hong Kong from London Heathrow on scheduled 747 freighter services.
This logistical precision highlights Cathay Cargo’s ability to handle diverse animal transport needs, from large competition horses to smaller breeds.
The collaboration involved Cathay Cargo and the show organizers, HPower International. A coordinated approach was essential for the smooth execution of this complex logistical undertaking.
Jo Peck, Event Director at HPower International, the event delivery company, expressed her gratitude for Cathay Cargo’s expertise.

Cathay Cargo’s involvement extended beyond transportation. The airline also sponsored one of the showjumping events. Cathay Cargo branding featured on some of the obstacles and jumps.
An interactive booth in the exhibition area provided visitors with the opportunity to learn more about Cathay Cargo. The booth provided information on its specialized Live Animal shipment solutions.
