American Airlines Flight AA1314 Philadelphia-Austin Declares Emergency

An American Airlines flight arriving from Philadelphia declared an emergency during its approach to Austin, TX earlier today.

American Airlines flight AA1314, operated by an Airbus A319-100, was conducting an arrival to Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

The flight was a scheduled service from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).

During the latter stages of the approach, flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 as the aircraft passed through 4000 feet.

Following the emergency declaration, the flight continued with the approach to the destination. The aircraft conducted in a descending orbit before completing an approach to runway 18R Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

The nature of the emergency prompting the declaration is not yet known.

The flight landed and cleared the active runway, taxiing to the apron hard standing area. Flight crew maintained emergency transponder priority code 7700 during the approach and landing.

Available flight data shows that American Airlines flight AA1314 appears to have made an aborted attempt at departure from Philadelphia International Airport 2205 local time on 21 May. (see image below).

The aircraft conducting this initial aborted service was an Airbus A319-100, registered N806NW. According to available flight data, the aircraft taxied for departure before returning to the stand.

The second departure of scheduled flight AA1314, operated by an Airbus A319-100, registered N755US, was then recorded.

The second flight attempt made its departure from Philadelphia at 2229 local time.

Following departure, the flight set course normally, to flight level FL360 for the south westerly service to Austin, TX.

Initial descent procedures appeared to have been conducted normally, and flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 at 0557 UTC. The aircraft was established in the latter stages of the descent for Austin, passing through 4000 feet at the time of the emergency declaration.

The American Airlines emergency aircraft was an Airbus A319-100, registered N755US. This is a 24.7 year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier American Airlines. It has been operational service with the airline since December 2013.
