London Gatwick Airport has reported outstanding performance in the first half of 2025. The report showcases improved on-time departures, top-tier special assistance services, and strong financial results.
As the airport awaits a pivotal government decision on its Northern Runway expansion, these achievements enhanced passenger experiences and drove economic growth.
Gatwick Airport H1 2025 Performance
Robust Financial Performance
From January to June 2025, London Gatwick welcomed 20 million passengers, a significant milestone.
The airport’s revenue reached £491 million. This reflected growth in airport, traffic, and property charges compared to the same period last year.
Profits also rose, with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) hitting £262 million. These figures underscore Gatwick’s financial strength and its ability to invest in infrastructure and services.
improved Passenger Experience
Gatwick delivered exceptional service, achieving a 75% on-time performance rate. This was achieved thanks to strong collaboration with airline partners and National Air Traffic Services (NATS).
The airport met 100% of its service standards, ensuring 98% of passengers passed through security in five minutes or less.
This efficiency stems from a £60 million investment in next-generation security screening technology, aligning with Department for Transport requirements.
The airport’s special assistance services earned the highest rating from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in June, reflecting Gatwick’s dedication to accessibility.
Additionally, a £7 million refurbishment of the South Terminal’s departure lounge is nearly complete, enhancing the passenger experience. A new 3,000-space, multi-story car park now offers convenient access to the North Terminal, further improving accessibility.
Driving Economic Growth
Gatwick now hosts 58 airlines, more than ever before, with an expanding long-haul network connecting the UK to global markets.
The airport offers over 50 weekly flights to the Middle East, 39 to Africa, and 36 to China, including unique direct routes to Uganda and Kenya via Wizz Air’s low-cost, long-haul XLR aircraft.
Gatwick is also spearheading the UK’s first “airport economic zone,” aimed at boosting a region that accounts for 7% of the UK economy (£155 billion).

Sustainability and Innovation
Gatwick is leading the aviation industry in sustainability and efficiency. It became the first single-runway airport to adopt NATS’ Intelligent Approach system, which optimizes aircraft separation by time rather than distance.
This innovation enhances resilience, reduces delays, and lowers carbon emissions. The airport also issued a second sustainability-linked bond, tied to achieving ambitious carbon reduction targets.
To advance its £250 million net zero program, Gatwick partnered with a renewable energy provider to decarbonize heating and eliminate natural gas in 50 buildings, including both terminals.
The airport introduced 47 electric vehicles (EVs) as part of a planned 300-strong EV fleet and invested £14 million in 14 electric buses, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.

Awaiting a Key Decision
As Gatwick celebrates these successes, it awaits a critical government decision on its Northern Runway planning application, expected by October 27, 2025.
In February, the Secretary of State for Transport indicated she was “minded to grant consent” for the privately financed, shovel-ready project.
Stewart Wingate, Gatwick’s Chief Executive, expressed optimism about the approval. “This decision could unlock growth for Gatwick and the UK economy, creating jobs, trade, and tourism opportunities for future generations.”
The CAA also extended Gatwick’s “Commitments” regulatory framework until March 31, 2029, recognizing its consumer-focused approach and support for airline planning and growth.

Looking Ahead
As London Gatwick awaits the Northern Runway decision, its focus on passenger service, economic growth, and sustainability positions it as a leader in the aviation sector.
With ongoing investments and innovative solutions, Gatwick is poised to deliver lasting benefits for passengers, airlines, and the UK economy.
