An easyJet Europe flight departing for Naples, Italy made a precautionary return to Berlin after reporting smoke in the cockpit on 20 May 2025.
EasyJet Europe flight U25053, an Airbus A319-100, was conducting a departure from runway 25L Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).
The flight was a scheduled service bound for Naples International Airport (NAP).

Shortly after departure from Berlin, flight crew reported the presence of smoke in the cockpit. The departure procedure was terminated and the climb was stopped at 5000 feet.
Flight crew elected to make a precautionary return to Berlin Brandenburg, and a direct return was then initiated.
The aircraft landed without further incident on runway 25L, just under half an hour after the flight’s initial departure.

Flight data shows that easyJet flight U25053 had made an on-time departure out of Berlin Brandenburg Airport at 1104 local time on 20 May.
The flight was still in the initial climb procedure below 10,000 feet when the incident was reported. A direct return, including one holding procedure was then initiated at 5000 feet.
The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to carry out the scheduled service to Naples, due to the serviceability.
The aircraft conducting the U25053 service to Naples International Airport was an Airbus A319-100, registered OE-LQX. This is a 16.7 year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier easyJet Europe.
It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2008. The aircraft was deployed to the easyJet Europe division on January 2018.
The aircraft bears the airline name “Palma de Mallorca”.
