A brake fire resulted in the destruction of two main gear tires on a Southwest Airlines aircraft landing in Las Vegas on 9 May 2025.
Southwest Airlines flight WN2024, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, was conducting an arrival to runway 01L Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS).

The flight was a regular scheduled service from San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC).
During the landing procedure a fire broke out due to hot brakes. The resulting fire caused the destruction of the two left main gear tires.
Report by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the landing incident. “Aircraft landed and to left main tires were destroyed by fire due hot brakes. Las Vegas, NV.”
Flight data shows that Southwest Airlines flight WN2024 had made an on-time departure out of San Jose Mineta International Airport at 0628 local time on 9 May.
Following departure, the flight had set course normally, climbing to flight level FL310 for the south-easterly service to Las Vegas.
Descent and approach procedures were similarly conducted normally . ATC then cleared the aircraft to land on runway 01L Las Vegas (LAS).
According to flight data the aircraft was returned to service approximately 32 hours after the landing incident.
The aircraft conducting the WN2024 service from San Jose was a Boeing 737 MAX 8, registered N8765Q. This is a 2.8 year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier Southwest Airlines. It has been operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in August 2022.
